Why ads get in the way
Many free photo and chat apps carry ads. In app store reviews of family album apps, people describe full-screen ads between photos, and grandparents opening an ad when they meant to open a photo.
In a family album, an ad sits between you and the photos you came to see. For someone new to smartphones, it is one more thing that looks like a button.
No ads in Lumo, ever
There is no advertising in Lumo: no banners, no full-screen ads, no sponsored posts and no ad network in the app or the web app. You open the album and see your family’s photos.
Advertising identifiers and Google’s advertising features stay off, and we don’t sell your data. Lumo Pass, which is optional, keeps Lumo running.

The notifications Lumo sends
Most notifications are about your family: new photos (at most once an hour for each person), comments, reactions, and people joining or asking to join.
A few others come rarely: one reminder 3 days after someone joins an album, if they haven’t added a photo there yet; “This week last year”, photos from earlier years, at most once a month and only when the album has been quiet; and “Our year”, once a year on 2 January.
Each kind has its own switch in Settings, under Notifications. Lumo never sends notifications about offers, and there are no email digests.
Free, for the whole family
The album, unlimited photos and videos, inviting family, hearts and comments are free, for everyday family use under fair use. Photos are kept in full quality, and nothing counts toward anyone’s iCloud or Google storage.
How unlimited storage worksEasy for grandparents
Grandparents join with one tap on a private invite link, or with a 4-digit family code. With nothing in the way, what they see is the album, with the family’s newest photos waiting.
