Questions
- Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
- No. The converting happens in your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your photos are never sent to Lumo or anyone else. There’s no sign-up and no cookie, and the page loads no analytics script.
- Is it free? Is there a limit?
- Yes, it’s free, with no watermark and no daily limit. Convert as many photos as you like, one batch after another.
- Does it keep the date the photo was taken?
- Yes. The date and time taken (EXIF DateTimeOriginal) and the camera model are copied into each JPG, so photo apps sort them in the right order. In the ZIP, each file’s date is the date it was taken.
- What happens to the location?
- iPhone photos often record where they were taken. The converter removes the location by default, so you can share the JPG without it. Turn off “Remove location” to keep it.
- Why won’t HEIC photos open on Windows?
- Windows needs Microsoft’s HEIF and HEVC extensions to open HEIC, and many PCs don’t have them. A JPG opens everywhere: on Windows, older Android phones, photo kiosks, websites and email.
- What does the converting?
- Your browser, when it can open HEIC itself, as Safari can. Otherwise the page loads libheif, an open-source HEIF decoder (LGPL-3.0), from lumomagic.com, never from another site.
- What is Lumo?
- Lumo is a private family photo album. Everyone in the family adds their photos to one album that only the family can see, with no followers, no feed and no ads. It’s free on iPhone, iPad, Android and in a web browser.
iPhone, Mac, Safari, Windows and Android are trademarks of their owners. Lumo is not affiliated with them.
